Ilkeston Running Club


All training starts at 7pm from the Rutland Sports Park Ilkeston

We train on Tuesdays, Thursdays and meet informally at the weekend. All sessions, apart from the weekendruns start a 7pm prompt from the reception area of the Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston near the bowling alley and fire station..

The first of our BDL cross country league races :-) 

Starting at 11am prompt at Shipley Park, near the visitors centre, DE75 7DJ (the field with the wind turbine).  This is a near 5mile route round Shipley Park, which is run 1 of our winter XC league races. Spikes highly recommended but good trail shoes satisfactory too. 
Also remember to car share where possible.


Coach Ian has another track night planned. Meet at Rutland reception at 7pm. Don’t forget your £2. Bearing the Sundays BDL in mind this will be a session which won't ruin you (too much). We will do some extended threshold work followed by some short but sharp intervals.


Alan Bower leads for a 4.5 mile route - Mostly off road, head torches a must. Meet at Rutland sports reception at 7pm.


Steve Capewell leads again tonight. Meeting at Ilkeston Hospital carpark at 7pm, where we will head down to the cricket club for a hill session

WINTER HANDICAP IS BACK. Meet at the bottom of Tesco car park on Rutland Street, Ilkeston at 6:50 at for a warm up jog to the start on Newton’s Lane, Awsworth. Clock will start at 7pm.

Away run with Dave Litchfield around The Chevin in Belper. Meet at The coppice carpark, market place Belper DE56 1FZ. Pint in the Angel's micro pub afterwards. 

13/08/2019 Summer Handicap Race. Go for that 5K PB! Meet at Rutland at 7pm to jog to the start line on the Nutbrook Trail.

Coach Ian Hunter leads a session, meet at Tesco for 7pm or Newtons Lane for approx 7.10 - we will do a mixed hill session involving short reps, longer reps and even longer reps, all with nice rests inbetween. All reps run to time so no one will be left behind!.


Shipley BDL race. Starts from Shipley cricket club, The Field at 7:30pm. Remember your white and red vest and good luck!

09/07/2019 Summer handicap race. Meet at Rutland at 7pm for a jog to the start line on Nutbrook trail.

Away run with Paul Robinson and Rich Iliffe, location in lovely South derbyshire. Approx 6miles of scenic trails and a possible pub stop option if time permits!! Meeting at the starting point at 6:55 to be ready for 7pm start, arrange car shares where possible. 

Starting postcode to be emailed out to members with an alternative option for people unable to travel but this run is definitely worth a travel.


Carsington BDL. c.5 miles out and back at Carsington Water - Big Lane, Ashbourne, DE6 3JL. 7.30 start at Millfields car park. Please car share if possible, meeting at Rutland for a 6.15 departure, and don’t forget your vest!

EDIT-we have been made aware the course has had a slight change and is now 4.25miles.

Thursday - Track session with Coach Amy Bradley - A session for those aiming for a 5k/parkrun PB


This session will now take place at Long Eaton Parkrun on 22/6/19 due to the weather and commitments to Hairy Helmets. Amy will still be at track tonight around 18:15 if anybody still wants to do their own session there and Amy is happy to lead a warm up and cool down if you’re there at the same time.

Tuesday- Welcome night to Ilkeston Running club For the Ilkeston Joggers 5 mile starting at the Rutland sports hall 7pm

Thursday - England Athletics Session No.3 - Back on the track at Rutland


Tonight sees the welcome return of Kings and Queens. Meet at Rutland for 19:00 or on the corner of Nursery Hollow for 19:10. Richard Bower leads us through this popular hill session. What does'nt kill you etc etc

Kate Mackenzie is back for her second Fartlek session. Building on her earlier set. Meet at Rutland gym 19:00 Please arrive a little early so we can do the London Marathon club place draw. 


Once again the session is suitable for all abilities and includes a warm up and cool down stretch.


Titanic Fartlek with coach Ian Hunter - We will be doing some fartlek along Awsworth bypass with a special twist. Meet at Rutland at 7pm or at Tesco's approx 7.05 or the roundabout at the end of the bypass at approx 7.10/7.15.


Heanor out and back. Paul Whittleton, Natalie Wilson and Richard Bower lead. Clover Attewell, John Hill and Rachel Newton sweep. Meet at Rutland 19:00. This session will have the 3 paces groups which are proving so popular. 7-8 min, 8-9 min and 9-10 mins/mile. This session will incorporate 3 miles of threshold running with 2 minute intervals between each mile. A warm up and cool down run is included.


Clover Attewell and John Hill lead. Meet at Rutland for Derby Road/Mapperley Village/ Nutbrook loop.Note for this session we will once again have 3 different paces groups 7-8 min, 8-9 min and 9-10 min/mile.


Kate Mackenzie leads the first of her 2 sessions this month. Meet at Victoris Park for 19:00 start where Kate will lead a Fartlek session round the park. This will suit all abilities and there will be a warm up cool down stretch.
