Chairman calls out to "All" Potential New Members

After our recent committee meeting we have decided to offer a bit more of an introduction service for new members.
Running clubs can be a daunting place especially for someone who wants to join but has never run with a club before. Mick Andrew has talked about this for sometime.
Therefore I will be available on Tuesday nights to take out running any new members that come along and join our merry band.
If you are a new member and have thought about coming along and giving it a go then just drop me a line or send me an e mail. I am not available on Thursday nights but I can arrange for someone else to take you out on that night.
So basically I will introduce you to a few new members, find out your current requirements, if you are a lady runner we have lots of women of all standards so I can assure you getting to know people will not be a problem.
If you have always thought about joining a running club to get fit why not come and find out what it is all about ? We train on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 7.00pm at the Albion Leisure centre in Ilkeston.
Now that the lighter nights have returned it is the ideal time to come along .
My e mail is darren@holloway41.wanadoo.co.uk or Tel 07970 715963
I have put up a photograph (see above) so you can pick me out if need be at the club

Spotlight on Carol Sharratt at Wrekin Fell race - 13.4.2008

A tough little race this i'm told by Carol who performed very well. At 5.5miles and 1700ft of climb ( eeek) she took it all in her stride and im informed managed to get a prize in the process. A few choice words must of been muttered as she climbed up the very steep hills that this area offers. Anyway i made enquires after Carol told me of this race and i'm informed that this is indeed a proper 'un.
So if anyone fancies trying it out next year im sure Carol can tell you how hard it was.
Maybe Carol will be in the fellrunner magazine once again after having achieved this high status.
Well done Carol

Carol

Hilly 2008

The date for this year's relay has been set for May 18th 2008.
Sadly for some, this is the same weekend as the planned Eurostar trip to the continent for John Bush's stag "Do", although I am hoping that there might be something more local for those of us who cannot make this trip.

As far as the Hilly 100 is concerned, please confirm your availabilty to me (injuries permitting) by 23rd February 2008 and we can then organise a meeting to discuss, availability, legs, transport etc.
Either see me on a Club night or email robertsharratt@hotmail.co.uk.
Rob.

Hairbrained Stunt at AGM for outgoing chairman

Thank you to all those who sponsored my hair brained stunt at last weeks club AGM, especially Darren for his expert use of the shears and Helen for the offer of 50p off a club base ball cap.
I'd like to also thank the Dew Drop Inn for the use of the facilities.
You'll all be pleased to know it raised £65 (plus an extra £10 from me as I'll not need to go to the barbers for a few weeks) giving a grand total of £75 for SCOPE. Pictures are now available below.
Derranged man take shears to club chair No Going back Good job he's faster at running than shearing as chair falls asleep Finished

Advanced notice- Festive relays. 27th Dec. 11am (Wollaton Park) names to Simon or Rachel.

In advance of Tony's idea of a club championship next year I have discovered a running converter which not only equalises age but weight and sex as well. I'd like to produce a table and find out 'who is the number 1 runner in the club?' if all things were equal. What I need is your best road times for 5K, 5 miles, 10K and 1/2 marathon in 2007 with you age (in years) and weight (in kg's) if you wish to be included

For the first time in the last few years both the 2008 Northern and National Championships are fairly local. This is an opportunity to race against the best in the region/country over challenging courses. If you are interested or want more information collar me on a club night and I'll do my best to answer any questions.

Autumn Newsletter

A couple of messages regarding the up and coming cross country season.
Wickstead Park, Kettering - Cross-country, Oct 10th
Can those who are interested in running in this race please let me know so we can try and organise a car sharing scheme. Ladies race is 1.25 pm and the men's 1.55pm, I believe, so we probably need to be setting off around 11- 11.30am.
Any body interested in taking part in the National Cross Country relays at Berry Hill on 3rd Nov. names to me by Thursday. Finally find attached my first attempt at an IRC e-newsletter. Please feel free to pass comment or provide ideas for future editions.
Keep on running, Michael

It's that time of year to 'get down and dirty'

Yes the Cross country season is upon us and on offer this year are 'Free' trips to Wickstead Park, a meander around Bramcote park, with its spectacular views of Wollaton hall a place you can also get up close and personal with later on in the season. An outing to Sutton in Ashfield and a jaunt around Markeaton Park are also on the menu. So if I've whetted your appetite let's see you down there. All you need is some sensible shoes and to be loud, proud and resplendent in you 'exclusive' red and white Ilkeston running club vest.
